HISTORY OVERVIEW
The Corner House is located in the former Chai Phatthanasilp building on Charoen Krung Road in Bangkok. This building dates back to the reign of King Rama VI and is over a century old. Originally constructed with Western architectural influences blended with local design elements, it served as a commercial building during Bangkok’s early modern era, reflecting the prosperity of the Charoen Krung area, which was one of the city’s first major commercial roads. The new owners have carefully restored and adapted the historic structure into a creative community hub, preserving key architectural details while giving it a contemporary function.

The transition

Chai Phatthana Sin Building, the Beginning of Our Story Standing alongside Phitthayasathian Bridge for over a century, the Chai Phatthana Sin Building is more than an architectural landmark. It stands as a symbolic gateway to Talad Noi. This four-storey building has witnessed many phases, having once been home to the iconic Hun Sui Ho department store, a soda factory, a footwear showroom and headquarters for Jump Master, and later the Jump Master Skate Haus.

In honoring its heritage, the building’s restoration highlights the distinct charm of Sino-Colonial architecture, seamlessly blending vintage details with modern materials. At the heart of the building is the main stairway, which has undergone minimal refurbishment. Its original wrought iron railing remains preserved, reflecting a commitment to maintaining the craftsmanship of a bygone era.

Over the years, the building evolved into a space for art exhibitions and creative events. Today, it has been carefully restored with deep respect for its history and now serves as the home of The Corner House, a contemporary space that harmoniously connects the past, present, and future.
